Amsterdam’s must-see spots

Amsterdam is an exciting and vibrant city with an amazing cultural mix and a blend of historical and modern customs. Amsterdam has so much to offer that it’s easy to miss some of the must-see spots here. Plan ahead and be sure to make time for these favorite sights and attractions.

Museums
Amsterdam is home to over 50 museums of all sorts and styles! Choosing just a few to visit may be difficult, but if you do your research and know your tastes you will be able to narrow them down. For about 25 Euros you can grab a Museum pass that will give you unlimited admission to all the museums in the city.  Popular museums include the Rijksmuseum, the Rembrandt House Museum, Anne Frank House and the NEMO Amsterdam Science Museum.

Oude Kerk
Built in 1300, the “Old Church” is one of Amsterdam’s oldest surviving structures. City fires and renovations have failed to diminish the allure of this major city sight. Located in the *Red Light District of Amsterdam[Red Light District], it is frequently used to host galas, events, art exhibits and musical productions.

Artis Zoo
Artis Zoo is an amazing amalgam of botanical gardens, zoo, aquarium and planetarium. Perfect for children and any animal lover, this Zoo will keep a family busy for at least a day. This is a favorite attraction in Amsterdam that you’ll be able to get the most of if you take a guided tour.  

Red Light District
Amsterdam’s historically relaxed attitude towards prostitution and drugs culminates in the Red Light District. Known for its prostitute windows, Sex Museum and Marijuana and Hashish museum, a tour through the District is definitely a once in a lifetime experience.  

Jordaan & Rembrandtplein
Two of the hippest neighborhoods in Amsterdam, Jordaan and Rembrandtplein offer historical cobblestone streets, shopping, markets, and many cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy a traditional Dutch koffie en gebakje (coffee and pastry).

Albert Cuyp Market
This local fresh food market is popular among citizens of Amsterdam, but a bit further off the beaten path for tourists. Visit the Albert Cuyp Market for a look at the multicultural and traditional Dutch foods and wares and to get a real sense of every day life in Amsterdam.

Anne Frank House
The Anne Frank House is an unassuming sight on one of Amsterdam’s largest canals.  This is where Anne wrote in her famed diary for two years while her family hid while the Nazis occupied Amsterdam.
